We experienced significant academic growth last year in virtually every category the state and federal government measures.† We are very proud of our administrators, teachers, staff and students. Dr. Perry was born and raised in Wise County, Virginia.† He graduated from Pound High School in 1982. He attended Clinch Valley College, (now formerly known as the University of Virginia at Wise) and was awarded a Bachelorís Degree in Social Science in 1986.† He attend Virginia Tech during his teaching career and was awarded a Master of Arts in Educational Administration in 1990.† He later earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Administration in 1994 from Virginia Tech.† He also earned a Master of Science in Reading from Radford University in 1998.†

He began his teaching career in 1986 in the Norton City School system where he taught American History, World History, Advanced Placement History, and World Geography.† He also coached football, track and tennis.† He obtained his first administrative position in 1991 when he was employed as an assistant principal at Auburn High and Middle School in Montgomery County.† He was an assistant principal at Powell Valley High School in Wise County for one year and went back to Montgomery County as a principal at Bethel Elementary School in 1994.† During this time, the school division consolidated two small rural elementary schools (Bethel and Riner) into the largest elementary school in Montgomery County and selected Dr. Perry to be the first principal.† He served as principal until 2003 when he moved to Colorado to become Superintendent of a small school division in Byers, Colorado.† He later move to Kremmling to become superintendent.† In 2008, he moved back to Virginia to become divisional superintendent of Wise County, which was his home town.†† In 2015, he was appointed as divisional superintendent in Wythe County.†

During his career, Dr. Perry has focused on improving student achievement and ensuring students have exceptional educational opportunities.† As principal of Auburn Elementary School, he was able to work with staff to create one of the highest performing schools in Montgomery County.† As superintendent, Wise County was ranked as the fourth highest academically producing school divisions in the Commonwealth.† As superintendent in Wythe County, the division experienced over 200% academic growth and moved from 58th in the Commonwealth to 14th in just one year.† He credits the hard work of the directors, principals, and staff for making this happen.†† He has been involved in a number of building projects including constructing a new elementary school in Montgomery County, a new middle/elementary school in Colorado, and two new high schools in Wise County.

Dr. Perry and his wife thoroughly enjoy the outdoors.† They love to hike, hunt, fish, bike, and run.† Dr. Perry has climbed to the highest point in 49 states with only Alaska left to climb.† He has summited 35 of the peaks in the United States over 14,000 feet.† He has completed three marathons, several half-marathons, a few sprint triathlons, and was an avid rock climber when he was younger.† Dr. Perry is married to Amy Perry, who is a pharmaceutical representative for Pzifer.† They currently live in Wytheville and are busy renovating a log home on Fairview Road.† He has one daughter, Kelly and a granddaughter, Adalee who live in Wise County.††
